Breakfast was in our host's home which smelled musty too. So I reckon she got used to the smell and doesn't notice it any more... Joan herself is a lovely lady and she's clearly into running her B&B, so that's why I give the Country Goose 2 stars. Just for the accomodation I'd have to say it'd be just one.
I wouldn't stay here again, nor would I recommend it.
Hawaii is really far away from Austria, but if we're returning we will definitively stay again with her in Country Goose! Her solgan “Hospitality as warm as a volcano“ is more than true!
We stayed for one night in the Kings bedroom and checked out early since it was so damp and musty smelling. The room isn't very big, there wasn't enough space for two suitcases. The decoration is rather rustic, lots of wood, crochet blankets and little figures, mostly geese (go figure). Not to our taste, but then there might be folks who love exaxtly that. There was a dehumidifier in our room, we thought it was switched on, but it turned out the next morning that it wasn't. You weren't supposed to use it on your own anyway, there was a sign across it asking you not to touch it. Anyway, the room was so damp that everything felt kind of clammy and the smell was bad.
150% YES. This is the place and the woman to meet! Joan "The Country Goose" is knowledgable and energetic with that personable and motherly quality that makes you never want to leave! That's all I'm going to say so that it leaves you wanting more go see The Goose! She's all the Hawaii info you'll need under 1 roof!
We really enjoyed staying with Joan. She is such a lovely person and chatting with her was really great. Breakfast was good and the room where we stayed in was nice as well.
