I have been trying to see the lava flow for more than ten years, Cheryl did a great job. Anyone trying to do this on there own would get lost in the dark.
Possibly one of the best tours I have ever taken. Be sure to go down the correct road, it's on the right just past the barriers. Guides are very knowledgeable and are able to answer almost all your questions. We were able to get within a few feet of the lava. If you have the opportunity, take a tour. It's a hard hike with very uneven terrain. Hiking boots are a must.
My father and I took our first vacation to the Big Island in hopes of seeing lava and Scott made it happen. He was fantastic and knowledgeable and took us straight to the lava. He made it possible to see and hike to the lava in the safest way possible. I really suggest you go with he or his wife and you will have a once in a lifetime opportunity. It's not a difficult hike unless you have an issue walking on sharp or uneven terrain.
Cheryl and Scott provided the best adventure of our vacation. Far surpasses the helicopter tour, just requires the ability to hike for a few hours. There was no way to see lava flows safely without their guidance, we cannot recommend them enough. The owners are extremely kind and knowledgeable. We were fortunate to see some really nice lava flows.
I had an excellent tour with Cheryl. She has a lot of experience and local knowledge to guide us over the lava fields. She makes every effort to get us to the best viewing areas and saw the best show possible. The tour gave us plenty of time to enjoy both in full daylight and, more impressive, sunset and full dark where it really glows. Also they take a lot of care for our safety and point out hazards of the lava field such as sharp glass and hot spots that I might have missed on my own. Definitely recommend this.
