Its clean it pretty new facility. Staffs cool. Lots of parking. Wheel chair accessible. Cool for kids in the recycle area. And also a view of the latest lava flow
EZ off loading with minimal wait (most days). You can drop off old stoves/washers/fridges for free.
Funny writing a review of basically a dump. The reuse center is cool I bought 5x 1 gallon glass carboys for $0.25 ea. The people at the reuse place are nice and the transfer employees are nice as well. Clean and not that smelly.
This may be the only garbage dump that's a tourist attraction. In 2014 flowing lava was threatening to cut off Pahoa village from civilization. The flow went through the edge of the transfer station property, made it almost to the main road and then miraculously stopped. You can come here to see the freshest lava on the island (besides taking a helicopter tour) and see how it melted the fence.
A good place to find clothes and books and kitchen items.
*Side note: Recycling center has been closed & the mobile office has been removed since at least 9/17. No signs of it coming back.
