The owner is very friendly, the location is excellent and the WiFi stable. It's not totally obvious that you have to drive down a rough grassy road, and there is a gate that is always closed. I had to call the owner to find out that I was in the correct place and to find out how to open the gate. A less adept Google maps user may have issues as I used sat view to ensure I was in the right place. The rooms could be a bit cleaner for the price, and there is a rooster that crows at exactly 3:15 AM every day. And then several times after that on the hour. I don't think that if I were in the hosting business, that I would have a rooster, even if it is necessary to keep the chickens in order.

I found the breakfast to be similar to a continental breakfast offered at a hotel, I'm used to hot breakfast, as well as a choice of breakfast (french toast with bacon and side of fruit, hot oatmeal and side of fruit, eggs and bacon with side of fruit) you will not get that here.

Not a good experience. Doors and walls have fingerprints and smudges everywhere. We were told private bathrooms but they were shared. House, yes house not inn was very cluttery and disheveled. Poor privacy and the rooster is obnoxious. I will say the lawns surrounding the home were charming but overall it was an unpleasant stay.

If you love great service this isyour place and sweet Lady who will go extra mile for you!

As this is the wet side of the island, you will have to expect a musty smell and high humidity in most places.

The home was older but it was comfortable and Irene was a great host. The road to Lava Tropic Inn is rocky and not paved so it was a little difficult getting in and out. Breakfast consisted of Quiche and fruits from Irene's trees. The bed was comfortable and place is somewhat clean..This is a bed and breakfast and you are staying at someone else's home; this is not a 5-star hotel and there are other guests in nearby rooms so do not stay here if you are looking for a hotel-quality stay. It's close to Pahoa and somewhat close to Volcano. Irene gave us some great tips on Volcano and local vendors. Overall, it was an ok place to stay. The roosters did wake us up every morning but we didn't mind.

Amazing! Irene is an awesome lady from Hungary, super friendly, incredibly knowledgeable about the area, and it was like staying are your aunt from the old worlds house. The location is great, it's out of the way, less than a 5 min drive to Ahalanui Park ("The Hot Pot" Thermal Pond) and Pahoa witch has a nice little grocery store and good food. Breakfast is always served @ 8am, and starts with fresh island fruit parfaits. The inside of the house is gorgeous with thinks Irene has collected from all over the world, and the rooms are nice. Now for the down sides, which I'm glad to say are few. There are chickens and a rooster and he starts in every morning with the change of the tide, so between 3am and 4am and continues till sun rise. The Inn is on the wet side of the island so the out our side of the house looks a little run down from moss build up, and this also causes the house to always have a musty smell, nothing can be done about it. The road is a little hard to find, look for the tiny sign that says Lava Tree Park, fallow the paved road onto the gravel road, which I'm sorry to say if you don't have a vehicle with decent clearance you're going to bottom out. The road is Horrible, but because it's start park property (The road is on an easement) there is nothing any of the residence can do about it. Over all Still amazing for the Price, I don't care what anyone says, between location, ambiance, and company, it's a steal compared to a hotel that cost twice as much.
