Funky pahoa/Puna clothing and stuff. Used to give veterans discount but I think it depends on who is on the register
If your store doesn't give military discounts, that's fine....I get that. But make sure your cashiers ALL know this. I don't need a sympathy 1% discount because you see no worth in my military service. I will GLADLY go to the local merchant who is interested in my business....without a *sympathy discount.* I am proud of my military service and not in need of your sympathy for service to OUR country.
This used to be one of my favorite stores in Pahoa for unique clothes and gifts. I have been coming here since I moved to Big Island January. As I was checking out this afternoon, I presented my military ID card like I always do. The cashier looked at it said, "What do you expect me to do with this?" I asked for my military discount. "We don't give military discounts. We give senior citizen discounts and you're not old enough." (I'm 50). I explained that I have come here often and I have ALWAYS received a military disount. I asked for a kama’aina discount. "I told you, we give senior citizen discounts ONLY. No military and no kama'aina." I handed her my things and said that I would buy from another local merchant who DOES give military discounts. She told me, "Oh, I can be nice and give you a ONE TIME military discount of 1% off, but we DON'T give military discounts, so don't ask for any in the future. Other people may have given you a sympathy discount because they felt sorry for you, but we don't give military discounts. I will give you 1% off today only."

This is an amazing store and you sure can't beat the prices!! I got some beautiful tapestries and some amazing little gifts for my friends for a reasonable price. And you cant beat the fact that a lot of stuff is from Indonesia and India. It really is a charming little store and the staff was extremely nice.
